Privacy Policy

Overview
Settle Down Atlas (the “Service”), operated by Numen Digital LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company, is designed to be privacy-light by default. It is a static website with no user accounts and no server-side database of personal information. The choices you make in the app stay in your own browser. This policy explains the limited data involved and the third parties that necessarily see technical information when they serve content to you.
Information stored in your browser (not sent to us)
Your settings are saved only in your browser’s local storage on your device. This includes your factor weights and comfort targets, saved favorites, priority limits, region filters, pinned family locations, the current map view, and a flag noting you have seen the tutorial. This data is functional: it is the service you asked the app to provide, and it is not transmitted to us or to any server. You can erase it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for settledownatlas.com.
Family-location addresses and geocoding
When you add a “family pin,” the address or place name you type is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service to convert it into map coordinates for the “Near family” distance and drive-time features. We route this request through our own server so we can comply with Nominatim’s usage policy and avoid leaking your browsing context to the third party. We do not store the address on our servers; the resulting coordinates are kept only in your browser’s local storage as described above. OpenStreetMap processes the lookup under its own privacy policy. Please avoid entering more of an address than you need. If you later choose to include your family location in a shared link or exported PDF, only the center of the county containing the address is included, never the exact address or precise coordinates.
Third parties that receive technical data
Like any website, when your browser requests content, the providers that serve it receive standard technical information such as your IP address and request details. The Service relies on:
- Map tiles: OpenFreeMap and the USGS National Map (satellite layer).
- Geocoding: OpenStreetMap Nominatim (via our proxy), as described above.
- Hosting: Bluehost, which may log requests for security and reliability.
- Analytics and diagnostics: Google Analytics and Sentry, contacted only if you accept them in the consent banner. Decline and neither is reached.
- Sponsored and affiliate partners: contacted only when you choose to followa labeled sponsored link, and then under that partner’s own privacy policy.
These providers process technical data under their own privacy policies. We do not combine it with any identity, and we do not sell it. A full list of data sources and their licenses is in the in-app Data credits panel.
Cookies, analytics, and error reporting
The Service’s core functionality uses only the functional local storage described above, which is exempt from consent requirements and cannot be switched off without breaking the map. It stays on your device.
Everything else is optional and off until you say otherwise. A consent banner asks your permission for a single category, “Analytics & diagnostics, ” which covers both:
- Google Analytics, to understand which pages and features get used. Google Analytics sets its own cookies. It does not load at all unless you accept.
- Sentry, to capture error diagnostics so we learn when something breaks. Sentry is configured not to attach personal identity to error reports; what it receives is the error itself, technical browser details, and the address of the page you were on. Because your saved priorities travel in the page address as a shareable link, that link can be included in an error report.
If you decline, neither one loads. You can change your mind at any time from the cookies & data page. If we ever change what we collect, we ask again rather than relying on your earlier answer.
Advertising and affiliate links
The Service may show a small number of clearly labeled sponsored and affiliate links, such as an option to be matched with a financial advisor. Where they appear they are marked “Sponsored” or “Ad”. On this site they are ordinary links that carry only campaign tags (for example a source tag and a two letter state code) and set no tracking cookies here. We send no personal information about you to anyone when the page loads.
No sponsored links are live on this site today. If and when they are, they run through an advertising network called WiserAdvisor, operated by Respond.com, Inc on the Everflow tracking platform. If you choose to click a sponsored link, your browser passes through a WiserAdvisor tracking web address (on the everflowclient.io domain) that records the visit came from us, so we can be paid if you go on to use their service. Any cookie or tracking involved is set on WiserAdvisor’s and Everflow’s own systems, not on this site, and only if you click. You can read how WiserAdvisor handles data in its own privacy notice at wiseradvisor.com.
If you go on to complete WiserAdvisor’s matching form, WiserAdvisor and the financial advisors it matches you with collect and use the information you provide under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Not clicking a sponsored link is how you opt out: nothing is shared and no cookie is created unless you click one. We may receive a referral fee or commission if you take an action there. We are not a financial advisor, we do not give financial advice, and we do not recommend any particular advisor. See our Terms of Service and the cookies & data page for the related disclosures.
Children
The Service is intended for adults making relocation decisions and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your privacy rights
Because we hold essentially no personal data about you on our servers, most data-subject requests can be satisfied by you directly: clear your browser’s site data to delete everything the app has stored, and block requests to Sentry with a browser setting or extension to stop sending error diagnostics, as described above. Depending on where you live (for example under the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU/UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data and to opt out of its “sale” or “sharing”; we do not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any right, contact us at the address below.
Data security and retention
We serve the Service over HTTPS and apply security headers. Because the app stores your settings on your own device and we maintain no central database of your personal data, there is little for us to retain or expose. Any aggregate analytics (if enabled) are retained per the analytics provider’s settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
